“They thought they could bury us,
they don’t know we are seeds ”
We are a collective of organizers, activists, and community builders rooted in the SWANA region, coming together to resource local resilience and resistance. Born from years of on-the-ground experience, the SUMOOD Fund is built on trust, mutual aid, and a deep commitment to the dignity of our people.
We believe the people most affected by crisis and injustice are also the ones best equipped to lead recovery and transformation. Our work supports these efforts through strategic partnerships to implement projects that create change.
Our teams on the ground have hands-on experience in responding to post-conflict and post-disaster situations - delivering immediate relief, supporting long-term recovery, and helping communities build a more resilient future.
Our history:
Since 2015, through the Yusra Community Center, the Inshirah Collective and partnerships with other organizations, we have been serving displaced and affected communities in Turkiye, Syria, Palestine, and other SWANA regions, responding to urgent needs while investing in long-term resilience, dignity, and self-determination.
Mission and Vision
We envision a liberated and self-determined SWANA region where communities have the resources, autonomy, and solidarity needed to rebuild, heal, and thrive beyond cycles of violence and oppression. Through collective resourcing and movement-building, we aim to nurture sustainable alternatives that challenge systems of exploitation and create a just, equitable future for all.
We resource movements, collectives, and organizations addressing the root causes and devastating impacts of war, colonialism, and displacement. By shifting power in philanthropy and centering the leadership of frontline organizers, we foster solidarity, resilience, and sustainable rebuilding efforts led by and for the people of the region.
Our Theory of Change:
Communities across the SWANA region are bearing the brunt of war, displacement, and systemic neglect. Yet at the frontlines of survival and resistance, grassroots movements are leading the charge to rebuild, reimagine, and reclaim their futures. The Sumood Fund exists to stand with them - mobilizing resources, redistributing power, and providing flexible funding and capacity support rooted in trust. By partnering with community-led initiatives, we help strengthen networks of care, solidarity, and resilience that are essential for long-term, transformative recovery.
